The Wailing Revenant

Soul Sand Valley biome boss — a stationary artillery ghast that rains destruction onto the arena from beyond its edge.

The Wailing Revenant does not stand on the arena. It hovers outside the arena’s back edge, scaled up to 2x size, raining attacks down onto the field. It never moves — this is a pure artillery boss that carpet-bombs the arena while summoning Wither Skeletons for ground pressure.

Unique Mechanic — Background Boss

The entire front row (z=0) of the arena is registered as the ghast’s hitbox. The player can attack any tile along that row to damage the boss. These tiles remain walkable — the ghast doesn’t block movement. The boss uses a strict round-robin attack rotation, cycling through its abilities to prevent any single attack from dominating.

Abilities

  • Fireball Barrage (every 2 turns): Spawns 3 fireball projectile entities at the front row that travel into the arena. Fireballs have 99 HP and deal 10 damage on contact. Max 8 fireballs alive at once. Telegraphed with gathering particles 1 turn before launch.
  • Raining Fireballs (every 3 turns): Marks roughly half the arena tiles, then each marked tile takes 5 damage. Telegraphed with tile highlights 1 turn in advance.
  • Magma Rows (every 3 turns): 1 random row of the arena turns to magma fire tiles for 2 turns. Telegraphed with ground crack particles.
  • Summon Wither Skeletons (every 4 turns): Spawns 2 Wither Skeletons (12 HP / 6 ATK / 2 DEF) on random tiles. Max 4 alive at once.

Phase 2 — “Requiem”

Triggers at ≤ 50% HP. Fireball Barrage fires every turn and launches 5 fireballs (max 12 alive). Raining Fireballs fires every 2 turns and deals 7 damage per tile. Magma Rows fires every 2 turns and converts 3 rows at once. Summon fires every 3 turns and spawns 3 Wither Skeletons (max 6 alive).

Strategy

Rush the front row to deal damage while dodging the rain of fireballs. The round-robin rotation means you can predict what’s coming next. Clear Wither Skeletons quickly since they apply Wither on hit. In Phase 2 the arena becomes a carpet of fire and projectiles — staying alive is the real challenge. Prioritize avoiding Raining Fireballs (the half-arena attack) since it’s the highest total damage ability.
